I graduated from the University of Florida in 1998 and have enjoyed providing mental health services to adults, adolescents, children and their families ever since. Often, when people sit down in my office, they have questions in their eyes “Can this person help me?” “Did I make the right decision coming here?” “Is there something defective about me?” As we each make our journey through this life, we can take a lot, but sometimes one extra stressor or life-changing incident throws us off balance. Then we feel anger, anxiety, and/or depression. Adding insult to injury, these negative emotions further stress us out, making it harder to find solutions and regain our balance in life. Your seeking additional support shows what is healthy and wise about you rather than what is defective. As for me the helper, yes, I have the education and the years of experience, but first let me start with listening. Your story will be heard uninterrupted and with compassionate understanding. Then we will work as a team to figure out how to help you meet your goals and help you regain control over your life.
